Christ’s Hospital School - sculpture - front

Erection date: /10/2017

Inscription

{On a plaque affixed to the low wall in front of the sculpture:}
Christ's Hospital
Founded near this site by King Edward VI - 1552, to house, feed and educate needy children.
Incorporating the Royal Mathematical School, founded by King Charles II - 1673.
The school moved to Horsham, West Sussex - 1902, where its historic mission continues.
Sculpted by Andrew F. Brown.

The children are marching out of the background, become older and fully 3D at the front. The younger kids, towards the end of the line, while in very low relief, have a modern-day diversity and liveliness lacking in the early figures at the front.

Site: Christ’s Hospital School - sculpture (2 memorials)

EC1, Newgate Street

This sculpture marks the 350 years of Christ’s Hospital School in the City of London (1552-1902) but the year of installation, 2017, seems random. The School was originally close to this location.
