Covent Garden Restoration

Erection date: 19/6/1980

Inscription

The restored Covent Garden Market opened by Sir Horace Cutler OBE Leader of the Greater London Council, 19 June 1980.
This building, erected in 1828 - 30 to the design of Charles Fowler, was for nearly 150 years the centre of London's premier fruit and vegetable market. The restoration was carried out by Myton Limited under the direction of the GLC Department of Architecture and Civic Design, for the GLC Covent Garden Committee.
Chairman Historic Building Committee - William Bell Esq.
Chairman Covent Garden Committee - Dr. Mark Patterson

One thinks of people named on plaques as "Chairman" of this, that or the other, as being upstanding citizens. Check our page on Dr Patterson for some disillusionment.
