In memory of

Who died 15th August 1853 by a fall from the roof of the Crystal Palace.
Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world have mercy on us.

{Around the outer edge of the stone area:}
In the midst of life we are in death for of whom may we seek for succour but of thee O lord.

Twelve workmen were killed, but we are unable to find out where the other two were buried. The grave was restored in 2003.

'In the midst of life..' comes from the Book of Common Prayer, 1662, Burial of the Dead.
