Site: Donald McGill - SW2 (1 memorial)

SW2, Christchurch Road, 36

The 's page on McGill gives: "His fame was recognized by the placing of a blue plaque on his home, 36 Christchurch Road, Streatham Hill, London." See our page for McGill for more information.

Up until at least about 1970 most of Christchurch Road was lined with substantial houses with large front gardens, or drives, similar to those still standing at the Tulse Hill end. Number 36 would have been one of these houses, on the south-east side, at about the mid-point of Coburg Crescent. They were probably demolished and redeveloped in the 1970s.

The say he lived  in flat 7 in number 36.

McGill was here for only a year or two, late in his life, and the house no longer exists. We do wonder whether the ODNB has confused this address with Bennett Park, where there is a plaque.
