Plaque

Doves Bindery and Press

Inscription

The Doves Bindery, MDCCCXCIII, The Doves Press
TJ, MCM, C-S

{Each line has a date in the middle: 1893, the date the Bindery was founded, and 1900, the date the Press was founded.}

Initially (ha-ha) we were puzzled by the letters at the bottom of this plaque and we are grateful to Jan Eskildsen who, via Facebook, has pointed out that the initials must stand for Thomas James Cobden-Sanderson. The hyphen misled us into thinking the last 2 letters were GR. Jan also raises the interesting question of who carved this plaque and suggests Eric Gill, which seems quite likely.
