The 1830 map has the Duffield Sluice marked on the river bank just to the north-west of this building, where there is now a patch of green with a granite drinking fountain at the centre.  This neat little building may have been housed offices and been one of a group of buildings used by the sewer company, necessary for the managment of the nearby sluice.   has investigated.
