This statue was relocated to the park to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Royal Arsenal and the opening of the park by H.R.H. the Prince of Wales on 16th June 2005.

Originally erected, in 1848, at the Tower of London where the Board of Ordnance was in the Duke's time. Its location can be deduced from : in the courtyard, south of the Royal Chapel. The statue was moved to Woolwich Arsenal in 1863, and moved to this exact location (on a lawn above a car park) in 2005. It is badly worn and damaged. He originally held a sword and a roll of plans, but these have been lost along with his right hand and wrist.
