Praise god for Edward Henry Mosse, Rector of this church, who was killed in an air raid in the early morning of the XXIX January AD MCMXVIII while ministering to his people and for the men of this parish who died for king and country in the great war.
{Right hand panel:}
In their memory the gate has been made into the churchyard from Covent Garden market and this doorway moved from the south vestry and the cross placed above this door.
Grant them, O Lord, eternal rest and let perpetual light shine upon them.
Trying to understand the right hand panel: the 'south vestry' is probably the small flat-roofed extension, similar to this one, but on the south side of the church, and it does indeed had no door. However we struggle to explain "the gate has been made into the churchyard from Covent Garden market". There are two entrances from the market into the grounds around the church, formed by a pair of elaborate pedimented gateways, known as the . They have apparently been removed and replaced but we cannot discover the dates. Seems odd but perhaps one of these is referenced by the plaque.
