Inscription

Fr Thomas Byles parish priest lived here, 1905 - 1912. Perished in the Titanic disaster, 14th April 1912, having twice declined a place on a lifeboat, remaining to support and comfort fellow passengers in prayers.
St. Helens Catholic Church, Chipping Ongar Essex
An inspiration to all.

The church that erected the plaque is immediately behind this house, which is also used by the church.
