Football - first FA match

Erection date: 2014

Inscription

Battersea Park, 1864
9th January 1864, site of the first match of association football.
Wandsworth Council, 2014

This game took place, on a Saturday, just 2 months after the FA had been formed.

2025: have done some investigative journalism and it seems the first match of association football actually took place on 2 January, a week earlier than stated on the plaque.
