Site: Frampton Street WW2 bomb (1 memorial)

NW8, Frampton Street, Stanfield House

In our photo the plaque can be seen on the corner, below the satellite dishes.

The lists some entries which probably relate to this bomb damage, but we can find no actual information online.

Since publishing, our colleague, Andrew Behan, has examined the and found the names, ages and addresses of those who were killed as a result of enemy action whilst taking cover in an air raid shelter at Stanfield House on 24 September 1940. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission's website also gives details about the people involved.

It seems that the death toll was 32 persons. This comprised of 14 boys whose ages ranged between 2 and 17 years; 3 girls between 2 and 16 years; 3 male adults between 26 and 75 years and 12 female adults between 19 and 73 years. Some were individuals, but, from the surnames, many formed family groups. All were killed in the shelter apart from one man who was taken to the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, 60 Grove End Road, NW8, where he died the following day.
