Frederick Winsor, 1763-1830, gave the world's first demonstration of street lighting by coal gas from a retort located here, June 1807.
Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers.

Plaque unveiled by Councillor Carolyn Keen, Lord Mayor of Westminster. At the ceremony, a lamp was lit using the traditional pole.
