{On the back face of the plinth:}
This statue was erected in honour of Gertrude & Harold Baillie Weaver by the National Council for Animal Welfare with the generous co-operation of the sculptor. 1931.
{On the front face of the plinth:}
To all protectors of the defenceless.

The statue is known as 'The Shepherdess' and is signed "C.L. Hartwell. R.A." It appeared, as 'The Goatherd's Daughter', on one of the cards in the set:  .
