This plaque was fixed to the wall of the brewery Barclay, Perkins & Co. It was unveiled by Herbert Beerbohm Tree who was President of the Shakespeare Reading Society which erected the plaque. We understand that The London Illustrated News of 9 October 1909, CXXXV, 500, contains photographs of this tablet when first erected.

Even after this plaque was erected in 1909 the arguments about where the Globe had stood continued. Â A (very poorly) presents the arguments. Â The plaque erectors were vindicated in 1989 when excavations revealed a portion of the foundations in the car-park behind the plaque. Â
