Gold post box - Westminster

Inscription

This post box has been painted gold by Royal Mail to celebrate London as the host city of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and was unveiled by Jo Swinson MP, Under Secretary of State, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

The plaque is a nasty modern thing, as they are on all these Olympic boxes, so on each one we try to find other more interesting features to photo instead.

Site: Gold post box - Westminster (1 memorial)

SW1, Tothill Street

This box launched Royal Mail's gold post boxes project. Unlike the others it does not commemorate any specific gold medallist, just the overall glorious sumptuousness of Britain's Olympic achievements in 2012.
