Mural

(lost) H. G. Wells mural

Bromley town pump and 2 murals
H. G. Wells mural

Erection date: 1986

The mural featured a portrait of Wells and pictorial references to some of his works, particularly 'The War of the Worlds'. Over the years it started to deteriorate and was replaced with one featuring Charles Darwin. Maybe, it was also a belated snub to Wells, who had refused the offer of the freedom of the borough (probably because of his less than pleasant experiences there when he was a child).

This photo is taken from , and we are grateful that John had captured the mural before it was lost. From his photos we can see that the mural replacement happened sometime between 2002 and 2010.
