Plaque

(lost) Handel - lost

Erection date: 1952

Inscription

{Not legible in the photo.}

Seeing a plaque in this 1970s photo of Brook Street at we investigated and identified the buildings in the photo as numbers 23 and 25, the Hendrix and Handel residences respectively.

, referring to the Handel plaque: "The current plaque replaces the LCC plaque of 1952, which replaced a brown SoA {Society of Arts} plaque of 1870."

The photo enables us to compare these buildings then with how they present now. The changes are surprisingly significant; without the plaque and the passageway it would be very difficult to identify the location.

The passageway to the left of the photo is now signed "Lancashire Court formerly White Lion Yard" but the sign in this photo uses yet another name, Horse Shoe Yard.  From we learn that the passageways across this block have 'evolved' over time and continue to do so.
