James Hudson Taylor used these premises (1872 - 1895) for the work of the China Inland Mission which he founded in 1865.

The CIM was established at number 6 and later extended to incorporate numbers 4 and 2. It moved out of here to nearby Newington Green where you can still see the rather more imposing premises, which, in July 2004 were undergoing a major renovation.
