Plaque

Joe Orton

Inscription

Historic House
John Kingsley Orton (Joe Orton), 1933 - 1967, playwright, lived here, 1960 - 1967.
London Borough of Islington

From : "From here, Orton wrote some of his most famous work, including his notorious diaries, which describe sexual escapades with men all over London, (most notably, an encounter with a dwarf, and a dalliance at his mother's funeral). Noel Road is also where Orton was bludgeoned to death by his lover Kenneth Halliwell, who afterwards committed suicide by overdosing on Nembutal. Charming."

Site: Joe Orton (1 memorial)

N1, Noel Road, 25

Unusually this plaque is high up on the building - easily missed, perhaps Orton's flat was on the second floor. The photo shows Orton at the house in 1964.
