In memory of the Russian poet, Nobel Prize Laureate, Joseph Brodsky (1940 - 1996) who stayed here while in London and was inspired by this place.

In June 1991, when Brodsky was made Doctor Honoris Causa at Oxford University, he came with his wife Maria Sozzani to stay here."
