Inscription

{Beneath the Thackeray family coat of arms with the motto 'Tenez le Droit' (Uphold the right):}
Built and endowed in 1840, for six aged females, by John Thackeray of the Priory, Lewisham, who died on the 13th day of May 1851.

This plaque must have initially been erected without the last section of text, "who died...".
