(lost) Marchioness at National Theatre

Near this spot on Sunday 20th August 1989 the pleasure boat Marchioness was in collision with another vessel and sank with the loss of 51 lives.

We have found three (identical) plaques on the South Bank riverside recalling this disaster, as follows: Royal Festival Hall; National Theatre - this one, London Eye. All three are attached to the tops of the wooden housing for emergency lifebelts.

2025: We were contacted by Richard Jones, informing us that these three plaques have gone. Looking on Google Street View showed the 3 wooden housings still in place but all the tops had gone.  We then visited the site of the plaque at the National Theatre and saw that the entire wooden housing along with the lifebelt had gone. We've marked all three plaques as lost and thank Richard for the information.  He's a historian - check out his .
