Fountain

Maria Hawes Ware water fountain

Erection date: 1863

Inscription

{On the front of the obelisk:}
Presented to the parish of Hornsey by Maria Hawes Ware, 1863.

{On the front of the plinth immediately below the ledge:}
The fear of the Lord is the fountain of life.

{On the south end of the horse trough:}
his tender mercies are over all his works.

The quotation on the obelisk is from the bible, Proverbs 14:27. The quotation on the trough is from the bible, Psalms 145:9.

Around the basin are signs that there used to be more to this edifice than what remains, not least a means of supplying water.
