Erected by the Society of Arts

This is where Faraday, aged 14, was indentured for 7 years to the bookseller, George Riebau, at what was then 2 Blandford Street. He started as an errand boy but then trained as a bookbinder at which point he moved to live here. It was while here that he developed an interest in chemistry, reading all the books on the subject that came his way.

Erected April-May 1876.
