Inscription

{on plaque affixed to pedestal:}
Ex dono Master Sir Montagu Sharpe K.C. 1930.
{"ex dono" = "gifted by"}

{Around the base of the sphere:}
"The inseparable property of time which is ever more and more to disclose truth." Francis Bacon

{On one of the bands that makes up the sphere, as an anti-theft measure?:}
Gray's Inn Square

This memorial is a sundial in the shape of a armillary sphere - see Wolff for another example. The sphere is supported by 4 silhouetted griffons.
Strictly speaking this is not a memorial but gifts of this nature are effectively self-memorials.
