Plaque

Morland Estate WW2 bomb

Erection date: 6/7/2019

Inscription

Remembering War's Victims
On 7 July 1944, a wartime flying bomb landed on this site, killing four Hackney residents and injuring many more. This plaque was erected on the 75th anniversary of that day to remember those who died and victims of war everywhere.

The inscription reference to "war everywhere" was chosen in recognition of the fact that many people living on the Morland Estate now are here because they have fled more recent conflicts in Syria, Turkey and elsewhere.

Site: Morland Estate WW2 bomb (1 memorial)

E8, Richmond Road, Morland Estate

The only source of information we can find is the group that organised the unveiling.  There we learn that on 7 July 1944, a WW2 flying bomb destroyed an entire block of homes at this site, killing four people and injuring many more. An empty bomb site remained until the Morland Estate was built in 1961.

The plaque can be seen in our photo, above the black doors.
