Plaque

Mrs Catherine Smithies

Inscription

{The sides of the plinth above each basin are inscribed with texts.  Taking the side facing the road as south-facing (which it almost is) and going anti-clockwise:}

{South face:}
God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3 16

{East face:}
Erected in affectionate remembrance of Mrs Catherine Smithies of Earlham Grove Wood Green, founder of the Band of Mercy movement and presented by her family and friends for the use of the public.

{North face:}
Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.
John 4 14 {{The King James Bible quote is actually from 13-14.}

{West face:}
Add to the temperance - godliness
2 Peter 1:6 {The King James Bible quote is actually: “And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;"}

{This text is above an oblong area from which an inlaid metal plaque has gone missing, though the council describe this as an "access panel", which it may also be.}

Site: Mrs Catherine Smithies (1 memorial)

N22, Bounds Green Road

First erected in 1880 and moved here in 1904. We've found two images of it in the original location ( and ) which we think must be about where the Wood Green tube station is now, but confirmation would be good.
