My Beautiful Laundrette, 1985, a landmark of British cinema, was filmed on this road. This plaque commemorates the site of 'Powders' laundrette. Directed by Stephen Frears. Screenplay by Hanif Kureishi.

Although not specified on the plaque, it was erected by Wandsworth LGBTQ+ Forum.

The plaque is in the pavement in front of the location for the launderette in the 1985 film, My Beautiful Laundrette.

Between August 2022 and July 2024 the entire row of shops was demolished and will be replaced by two, seven-storey buildings with street-level shops. In 2019 reported "Officers have reached agreement with the applicant to provide a plaque on the new building to identify the site on which this film was set."
