Myddelton statue - N1

Erection date: 1862

Inscription

{On the front of the plinth:}
Sir Hugh Myddelton
B. 1555 D. 1631

{On a marble slab on the back of the plinth:}
The statue presented by Sir Samuel Morton Peto, Bart, MP.
The pedestal and fountains contributed by voluntary subscription aided by a grant from the vestry of Islington.
1862

Myddelton holds a map of the New River in one hand and a spade in the other.

Unveiled by Gladstone. The facial features of this memorial are sadly melting away into the acid rain. The cherub-topped fountains on either side are appropriate, given Myddelton's involvement with providing water to Islington.
