New Gravel Pit Chapel - plaque

Erection date: 1999

Inscription

These railings were designed with pupils from Morningside School in 1999. They were inspired by the natural beauty of the site and the history of the New Gravel Pit Chapel, which stood on this site from 1810-1970, and its graveyard.

Project managed by Groundwork Hackney.
Designed by Cazenove Architects Co-operative.
Fabricated by Fashweld Metalworks.

The Heart of Hackney; Groundwork Hackney; London Borough of Hackney

Site: New Gravel Pit Chapel (3 memorials)

E9, Mead Place

In our photo the plaque is lost behind the bramble branches to the right of the right-most panel. We have captured 2 of the c.5 sculpted panels. The others are either impossible to see through the (quite spiky) foliage, or represent purely decorative elements, such as plants, and contain no historic or commemorative items, as far as we could see.
