Erection date: 1901
These almshouses were erected under the will of the late Charles John Peele, partner in the firm of Brandram Bros. and Co. of this parish. Also of Childown Hall, Chertsey, Surrey.
To the memory of his mother, Helen Peele A.D 1901.
The plaque could be interpreted to say that '1901' was the year of Helen Peele's death and/or the year the plaque/houses were erected, though that would contradict the '1905' supplied by Housing Care. Following his research our colleague Mike Coleman reported that Helen died in May 1890. So perhaps the plaque was erected as a foundation stone at the beginning of the building process in 1901 but delays meant the almshouses were not completed until 1905.
It would be great if someone skilled in coats of arms could identify these two. We got no further than finding some Peel(e) insignia sporting a single bee.

A terrace of 7 cottages. From : "Built in 1905 and set within shared landscaped gardens, Helen Peele Cottages comprises 7 one bed cottages for over 60s in the Rotherhithe or Southwark areas."
The Brandram firm had a tradition which is new to us. Samuel Brandram gave his children middle names that were his partners' last names. And the Peele family used 'Brandram' as a middle name.
