Inscription

{On the plaque attached to the Medawar Building wall:}
This stone gateway was formerly the entrance to Pewterers Hall Lime St. EC, 1668 - 69, rebuilt in this position, November 1932.

The dates on the plaque, 1668 - 69, must refer to the period during which the second Pewterers Hall was built (elsewhere given as 1670). The entrance keystone carries the Pewterers' crest.
