Designed by John Shaw, Jnr., even in its current rather dilapidated state, this delightful fountain puts other Victorian examples to shame.
She's manipulating a fan but meanwhile, unnoticed by Nell, her dress has slipped off her right shoulder causing a costume malfunction.
We feel the date probably gives a clue to what this substantial fountain was erected to commemorate, but we can't think what. Any ideas?
The new plaque (not shown) is rather brash but we like how the wording refers back to the earlier inscription.
The Ward drinking fountain is to the left of the gate. The Wesley plaque is to the right.
