{On each of the two long sides of the plinth there is a bronze relief with below, carved in the marble:}

Albert Prince Consort, born 1819, died 1861.

Prince Albert, dressed as a field marshal, doffs his hat to the passing traffic in a very jaunty way. This bronze statue is the City of London's official memorial to the Prince Consort. The horse stands on a plinth of Scottish granite with an allegorical figure of history in front.
