Queen Elizabeth II jubilees

Inscription

{Riverside face:}
1952 E II R  1977

{Inside a diamond:}
{a crown above:}
E II R

{below the diamond:}
Diamond Jubilee, 1952 – 2012
Unveiled by his Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex KG, GCVO
13 November 2012.

{Landside face, inscribed in gold:}
1952  E II R  2002
Unveiled by their Royal Highnesses, the Earl and Countess of Wessex
5 July 2002.

This memorial has provided terrific value. It was first erected for the Silver Jubilee with just one short inscription (photo'd) which does not even feel the need to say "Silver Jubilee" nor specify the date nor the dignitaries involved in the unveiling. 25 years later the other side was inscribed in a similar fashion for the Golden Jubilee, this time with the unveiling details and thus the whole side was filled, but still there is no reference to the type of Jubilee being celebrated. 10 years later, the space remaining on the first side was used for the Diamond Jubilee and this time not only are those words used but a diamond shape is drawn. It's full now - what will be done should the Queen make it to Blue Sapphire (65)?

2023: We wrote those words in 2014 (don't know where we got the 'blue' from).  We can now report that, though the Queen easily made it to her Sapphire Jubilee, there were no widespread public celebrations. These were reserved for a possible Platinum Jubilee, which did indeed take place in 2022. As far as we know, no further inscriptions were added to this monument at either time.

The round plaque is laid in the ground, land-side of the monument.

have a film, made by the London Borough of Southwark Public Relations, of the unveiling by the Queen of this stone, or rather, this stone before it got cut down.  The monument she unveiled had a lot more to it.
