Bust

Queen Victoria - Mill Street

High up on a narrow street, this is the best photo we could manage. Her Maj. peers out of a roundel at fourth floor attic level on the Mill Street frontage. She died in 1901, which might well be the year the building was erected. We think the little bust on her left shoulder probably represents Albert. A memorial in a memorial.

Site: Queen Victoria - Mill Street (1 memorial)

W1, Mill Street

The address of the building is actually 16 Conduit Street. On the fourth floor attic level the corner facade boasts a splendid relief sculpture of St George slaying the dragon. There is a St George church very close on the same block in St George Street. But we wonder if this building used to be a pub, it certainly is ornate enough. However we cannot find it on the website. But Andrew Behan wrote to tell us this building was indeed listed in the1902 Post Office Directory as the Coach & Horses pub.

The bust of Victoria is in the gable end to the right of our photo.
