Monument

Richard Carr Kirkpatrick

Erection date: 1920

Inscription

{On the body of the monument:}
In memory of Richard Carr Kirkpatrick, priest, founder of S. Augustine's Church and first vicar 1870 - 1907. R.I.P.

{On the base of the statue of Mary:}
 W. C. H. King, Sc. 1920

The gives “Granite stepped pedestal surmounted by granite crucifix with bronze figures of the dead Christ flanked by Keary and John”. We are not aware of a ‘Keary’ in the New Testament and assume that ‘Mary' was intended. Whoever, it is a moving representation of sorrow.

Site: Richard Carr Kirkpatrick (1 memorial)

NW6, Kilbrun Park Road, St Augustine's Church

This 1871 church was designed by John Loughborough Pearson. When we visited the gate was open so we walked in, only to be pounced on by the current vicar's large boxer dog, who was, of course, "only playing".
