Boat, 2016, Daniel Silver, bronze, concrete
This sculpture is inspired by a Roman boat (AD 190 - 225) which is buried almost five metres under the Cancer Centre. The 15 metre vessel is believed to have sunk in the Guy's Channel - a tributary of the River Thames from the prehistoric to medieval periods. Discovered in 1958, the boat remains underneath the Cancer Centre and is a Scheduled Monument.

Funded by Guy's and St Thomas' Charity
Commissioned by Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
Curated by Futurecity

A boat or a particularly vicious knuckle-duster?

We have assumed that the Boat was erected/unveiled on the day that the building was opened.
