Plaque

School wall relief

Erection date: 1873

Inscription

Christ Church, Middlesex.
This house and these schools were erected AD 1873, in lieu of the house and parochial schools (as shewn above) that formerly stood at the north west angle of the church-yard of this parish.

The wall plaque has not only an ornate cartouche with the inscription but also a detailed relief of the lost building. 1873 is very early for an awareness of conservation issues. The two figures shown on the miniature facade are presumably the model charity scholars, often dressed in blue, that are found on many charity schools.
