SW1, Smith Square, St John's

Designed by Thomas Archer this church was built in 1728, one of the Queen Anne churches. The church yard was designed by Fanny Wilkinson.

Suffered a direct hit on 10 May 1941 and was gutted by the fire. It was not repaired for over 20 years, but was eventually restored and reopened in 1969 as a concert hall.

In our photo the long-skirted lady is just about to walk past the bush and plaques. You can see the newly planted tree/bush in the foreground of our photo for the nearby Nobel House.
