2017: Our colleague, Alan Patient, informed us that this plaque has gone.
A sign below the plaque says 'The George Odger plaque, formerly on 18 St Giles High Street, was placed here in 1974'.
The inscription is carved into the stone and the date appears to read 1082 but the spacing is wrong, so some unknown event has corrupted ...
London County Council John Robert Godley, 1814 - 1861, founder of Canterbury, New Zealand, lived and died here.
Wilkie Collins, 1824 - 1889, Victorian novelist and author of 'The Woman in White' and 'The Moonstone', was born in a house on this site....
