St Barnabas Woodford Green war memorial

Erection date: 1920

Inscription

{On the front (north) face of the plinth:}
Jesu Mercy, "they gave their lives", 1914 - 1919
{a list of 57 names mainly in alphabetic sequence, in 3 columns, see Subjects commemorated.}

{On the back face of the plinth, two stone plaques: on the left:}
In proud memory of all those who gave their lives for their country in the war of 1939 - 1945, R. I. P.
{on the right:}
In proud memory of all those who gave their lives for their country in armed conflict since 1945, R. I. P.

In the inscription "they gave their lives" is given as a quotation but its source is not obvious.

When we visited, in addition to a few standard issue poppy wreaths, there were some rather lovely large pebbles painted with red poppies - you can see them in our photo.

The figure of Christ is in marble which might explain why the cross until it was in 2010.
