St John's Garden

Inscription

S. John's Clerkenwell
This consecrated graveyard, the property of S. John's Clerkenwell, which received for a hundred years the bodies of the Christian dead, here to await the resurrection, is now for ever dedicated as a garden, For the quiet enjoyment and refreshment of the living, especially of the dwellers in it's densely peopled neighbourhood,

In a garden man became
help of sorrow, sin and shame.
Jesus in a garden wins
grace and pardon for our sins.

{The superfluous apostrophe in "it's" is an error in the inscription, not our transcription.}
