St Pancras fountain

Inscription

Saint Pancras, Middlesex
This fountain and works connected therewith were presented to the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain Association on the 3rd day of August 1878 by Matilda wife of Richard Kent Esq. junior churchwarden 1878.
The figure now cast in bronze as designed by Joseph Durham. A.R.A.
?{illegible name} Site engineer

{The plaque is a thin sheet of metal to which the text has been applied in what looks like black paint, which is being warn away.}

This 'Matilda fountain' is a copy of the 1867 statue 'At the Spring' or 'Early Morn'  held at , or possibly that is a copy of this statue.

gives the contractor as William Thomas - possibly it's his name which is illegible on the plaque. Presumably he provided and placed the rocks.

Site: St Pancras fountain (1 memorial)

NW1, Gloucester Gate

This fountain is an odd arrangement of what look to be rockery-type rocks, a charming country-girl statue and, in modern times, no water.

2022: The structure is in need of maintenance: some of the thin stone cladding has fallen off, revealing the brick structure underneath and so ruining the illusion.  And the text on the plaque is even more illegible. Oddly, the plaque looks as if the text is being warn away by too much cleaning.
