This tree was planted by the leader of Greenwich Council Councillor Chris Roberts on 8th October 2011.
To mark Victory in Europe Day when Hitler's fascist tyranny was finally defeated and to remember the millions who died in the struggle for democracy in Europe.
"The price of liberty is eternal vigilance."

The quotation is one of several variations on the same theme. Possible originators include Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Abraham Lincoln and Leonard Courtney.
