(lost) Walworth Boy Scouts Tragedy - lost statue

Erection date: 1914

This monument, now lost, was paid for by public subscription. This photo comes from , where it is captioned: "The life-size bronze scout memorial at Nunhead Cemetery was stolen in 1969." Other sources say it was badly vandalised.  has another photo of the memorial.

Scott designed the memorial but we have not been able to identify the sculptor (but see below). The plaque that you can see in the photo survived.

2021: Mark Brady contacted us: "The bronze was sculptured by Lillie Read who also worked on Scott's Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. The statue was stolen and the stone part of the memorial was vandalised. There's a belief that Lutyens borrowed heavily from the stone work for his Cenotaph."
