William Lovely

Inscription

Delhi Lodge
William Lovely, Fleet Paymaster to the Royal Navy, lived here, 1887.

Site: William Lovely (1 memorial)

W12, Askew Road, 1

A rejected provides some history for the house: "The building dates from pre-1860 and would have formed part of the original estate owned by the Askew family, with other buildings on Askew Road being built afterwards. In 1886, the house, known as Delhi Lodge, 1 Askew Road, was occupied by Fleet Paymaster William Lovely of the Royal Navy. On 14th March, 1950, the Askew Family Trust disposed of 1 Askew Road. The property was placed on the Council's Local Register of Buildings of Merit in 1989. ... The existing building is an attractive, double fronted villa with semi-basements and a pitched roof and attractive chimney...."

We are all in favour of bus shelters but placing this style on such a narrow pavement, so close to someone's home seems insensitive.
