Fire station, 1891-4, by the Fire Brigade Section of the London County Council Architect's Department (chief architect Robert Pearsall). The foundation stone was laid in April 1893. Altered 1912 (the Waller Road range was remodelled and enlarged) and 1958 (two original appliance bays were increased to three, and the openings widened and remodelled). As the command centre of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade’s ‘D’ Division the station was built to accommodate the divisional superintendent, a station foreman, eight married and eight unmarried firemen, as well as two coachmen and stabling for four horses.
