W2, Hyde Park Estate, Cambridge Square, 33
Based on a Georgian model grid pattern, the Hyde Park Estate was initially developed in the early 19th Century. It belonged to the Bishop of London before being transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners (who later became the Church Commissioners) in 1836.
The estate, of which Cambridge Square forms a part, was extensively redeveloped by the Commissioners, to the plans of Anthony Minoprio, starting in 1957 and completing around 1962. All of the early 19th-century houses in Cambridge Square were demolished as part of this redevelopment.
