Site: Throgmorton Restaurant (1 memorial)

EC2, Throgmorton Street, 27b

This ornate building has a long frontage on Throgmorton Street, with a number of entrances. Two of them have this decorative ironwork and were originally entrances to the Throgmorton Restaurant. One is in our photo, above the lady with the white skirt, the other is outside the photo, to the right. The road is too narrow to allow for a photo showing the whole building.

Another two entrances, each guarded by a pair of splendid Atlantes (sculpted figures supporting the entablature), provide access to the offices above the basement restaurant. But people looking for the entrance to Drapers Hall may think they have found it.  We deduce this from the newish brass sign (the man in the white shirt has just passed it) announcing "Drapers' Hall: The entrance to the Clerk's Office is in Throgmorton Avenue" - where the Drapers' Hall plaque is.
